Rico
Rico spent two years in the foster care system before aging out. He has had to maneuver and seek healing for the deep pain, instability, and identity challenges that come with being a youth in foster care.
As of now, Rico is pursuing his BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Sociology and Family Studies at ASU. He is a full-time student and will be completing his degree in May 2023. Aside from that, he has been on a health journey and has reached a healthy weight after struggling with disordered eating his whole life. As of today, he has lost a total of 110 pounds since September 2021.
Through our program, Rico’s dreams for a bicycle and rock climbing gear were fulfilled! Having a bicycle allows him to travel to the store, access areas with Wi-Fi accessibility for school, and go to bus stations for further travel. Owning rock climbing gear has equipped him with the tools needed to stay active and has truly changed his health! It allows him to continue his hobby of rock climbing at the gym near his apartment. He has found enjoyment in how it gets him out of his comfort zone and provides him with a great workout, helping him a lot both mentally and physically.
