Kyrsten

Kyrsten was just 5 years old when she and her older sister were brought to the Department of Human Services office by police officers. All they had were the clothes on their backs, and even those were dirty.

This began her life in foster care, where she remained until she aged out. She had no family to rely on to support her or teach her how to be an adult.

The dream that she submitted to Dream Makers was a digital camera to capture memories.

As she says, “This dream being fulfilled has helped me towards my dream of becoming an equine-assisted psychotherapist for foster kids and adoptees. The pictures I had while in foster care were memories that I held onto in times of pain. I hope to be able to capture some of those moments for the kids I come into contact with.”

She believes that the biggest way people can help those who have aged out/are aging out of foster care is by simply showing that you care.
