1. Choose the Right Platform
Poshmark: Best for fashion, accessories, and home goods, with a social aspect for sharing and following.
Facebook Marketplace: Suitable for a wide range of items, leveraging your local community for quick transactions.
2. Prepare Your Items
Clean and Repair: Ensure items are clean and in good condition.
Research Prices: Check similar listings to price your items competitively.
Take Quality Photos: Use natural lighting and multiple angles to showcase your items.
3. Create Compelling Listings
Title and Description: Be clear and detailed, including brand, size, color, condition, measurements, and any defects.
Keywords: Use relevant keywords to make your listing searchable.
4. Set a Fair Price
Poshmark: Account for the 20% commission on sales over $15 or a flat $2.95 for sales under $15.
Facebook Marketplace: No selling fee, but price competitively to attract local buyers.
5. Promote Your Listings
Poshmark: Share listings regularly, participate in Posh Parties, and follow other users.
Facebook Marketplace: Share listings in relevant buy/sell groups and promote them to friends and family.
6. Communicate Effectively
Be Responsive: Reply promptly to inquiries.
Negotiate Politely: Be open to offers but know your minimum acceptable price.
7. Handle Transactions Safely
Poshmark: Ship items using the prepaid shipping label provided, track shipments, and follow up with buyers.
Facebook Marketplace: Arrange meet-ups in safe, public places (ie, firehouses or police stations) and consider secure payment methods like PayPal.
Never give extra personal information to customers (only needed information to complete transactions)
8. Maintain Good Practices
Provide Excellent Customer Service: Ensure items are as described and ship promptly.
Seek Reviews: Positive reviews build your reputation and attract more buyers.
By following these steps, you can effectively sell your items on Poshmark or Facebook Marketplace and make some extra money. Happy selling!
